Rural Health Training Centre, Kengeri


The department of Community Medicine runs the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC). The RHTC is situated in Kengeri about 14 KMs from Bangalore towards Mysore. It was established in the year 1983. 

The RHTC has an Out Patient Department (OPD) which functions every day. The OPD caters to the health care needs of the population of  RHTC field practice area. This has facilities for patient examination, conducting minor surgical procedures and basic laboratory investigations. The diagnosis and treatment of patients is free including distribution of drugs. 

RHTC has beds for Ante Natal Care (2 in the RHTC and 4 in the PHC, Kengeri) of mothers and facility for conducting normal delivery (1  room in RHTC and 1 room  in PHC, Kengeri). There is one minor surgical procedure table in the RHTC. 

The RHTC has a well equipped AV aids training hall  with board, slide projector, Over Head Projector, TV, VCR, LCD projector & computer along with a printer and power supply back up by UPS. This is used extensively for undergraduate, Interns and post graduate training.

The RHTC runs a mess. Staffs, PGs and Interns use the mess daily.

Staffs, Post Graduate & Interns are posted by rotation in the RHTC. On an average there are 6 interns posted at one time. The RHTC has hostel facilities for  male and  female postgraduates Interns.

The RHTC has liasion with three Primary Health Centers namely, PHC Kengeri, PHC K. Gollahalli and PHC Konanakunte and works in close coordination with them in day to day functioning, implemenatation of all the national programmes, etc.

There is an existing two-way referral system of patients from the RHTC to KIMS hospital including follow up of patients.

Activities of RHTC

    -- ANC  OPD on Friday.
  • Training of undergraduate students, Interns & Post Graduate students by demonstration, hands on training and use of AV aids.

Posted in RHTC- OPD, ANC & PNC. Training with help of AV aids
Posted also to PHC -School health check up, Immunization,MCH & FP,Family &EC survey at villages, Subcentre OPD clinics, Anganwadi visit, Implementation of National Health Programmes, Health education talks, Project work etc. 

Postgraduate training programme :
Posted in RHTC-OPD,ANC, PNC. Training with help of AV aids.                                                                         Posted also to PHC - School health check up, MCH & FP, Family, ANC, PNC &EC survey at villages. Subcentre OPD clinics, Anganwadi visit, Implementation of National health  programmes, Training of undergraduate students, Interns, health workers, anganwadi workers, project work, etc.
The RHTC has the following three satellite centers within the field practice area. The staff ,postgraduates and interns  are posted by rotation . There is a two-way referral system of patients from the satellite centers  to RHCT Kengeri  including follow up of patients.

    •  Mylasandra:  The centre runs a general outpatient services on Monday, Wednesday
      and Friday. This village  is also used by the undergraduate students, Interns & post
      graduate for the family study posting ,epidemiological studies and training.
    • Kuvempunagar: The centre runs a general outpatient services on Tuesday, Thursday
      and Friday. This village is also used by the undergraduate students, Interns & post
      graduates  for the family study posting, epidemiological studies and training.

    • Varahasandra: This village belongs to weaker sections of the society. The RHTC runs a
      General out-patient service at Varahasandra on Thursday. This village is also used by
      the undergraduate students, Interns & post graduate for the family study posting,
      epidemiological studies and training.
